How to Clean an Air Fryer Safely

After each use

• Switch off, unplug, and allow the appliance to cool before cleaning.
• Remove the basket, crisper plate, tray, or racks as the manual directs.
• Wipe loose crumbs and grease with a soft cloth or paper towel.
• Wash removable parts in warm soapy water with a non-abrasive sponge.
• Wipe the inside and exterior of the main unit with a damp—not dripping—cloth.
• Dry every part before reassembly or storage.

For baked-on residue

Soak removable parts in warm water and dish soap to soften residue. Philips recommends a soft-to-medium brush for areas beneath a basket mesh and warns against metal utensils or abrasive cleaning materials.

Do not scrape a nonstick or ceramic-coated part with a knife, steel wool, or metal scourer. If a coating is peeling, deeply scratched, or otherwise damaged, stop improvising and check the manufacturer's replacement guidance.

Cleaning near the heater

Only clean the heating area when the appliance is unplugged and completely cool. Follow the manual for access and orientation. Philips describes using a soft sponge and soft brush while avoiding a steel brush that could damage the coating on the heating element.

Never pour water into the main housing or immerse it. If grease is inaccessible, the fan is obstructed, or smoke continues after normal cleaning, contact the manufacturer rather than dismantling an electrical appliance.

Dishwasher-safe is model-specific

Some Ninja and Philips removable parts are described as dishwasher safe, but that does not apply to every model or every accessory. Check the exact manual before using a dishwasher.

Hand washing with a soft sponge is the conservative option for preserving a coating. Avoid aerosol oven cleaner unless the manufacturer specifically authorizes it.
