Frozen Burrito in the Air Fryer

A small breakfast burrito and a large bean-and-cheese burrito will not heat at the same rate. Air frying can crisp the tortilla, but the dense filling still needs time to heat through.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen, fully prepared burrito

Method

  1. Remove outer packaging and read the current package. Use its air fryer instructions if available.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F if the manual recommends it.
  3. Place the frozen burrito seam-side up in the basket. Do not wrap it in foil unless the appliance and package instructions allow that use.
  4. Cook for 7 minutes, turn, then cook for another 5 to 11 minutes. Begin checking a small burrito at 12 minutes and a large burrito later.
  5. Confirm the filling is hot through the center. For a fully cooked refrigerated or frozen food being reheated, USDA guidance uses 165°F / 74°C. Rest 1 to 2 minutes before eating.

Useful adjustments

  • If the tortilla darkens while the center remains cold, reduce to 325°F and continue in short intervals.
  • Microwaving first and air frying briefly can heat the center faster, but follow the package if using a combination method.
  • Do not cook several burritos pressed together; leave room around each one.
  • Steam can escape when the burrito is cut, so rest it before serving.
